On January 23rd of 2016, at the cafeteria of Abraham Lincoln School, 6D and 6B were in a conference about environmental sustainability that was done by Luis the environmental director of Abraham Lincoln School. In this speech he explained us what was environmental sustainability that is to satisfy our needs without affecting the future generations in order for them to have the same possibility to satisfy their needs. Also he said that Bogota is one of the cities that have a lot of air pollution causing respiratory diseases and that the air is so polluted that in the sunny days you can see the photochemical smog that is like a cloud made up of the smoke that comes from the cars, factories, people that smoke, etc… Another thing that is affecting the environment is that the people consume a lot for example here in Colombia the people love to have new things for example the cell phones that people change it like every two months and they don’t care if the other cell phone still working or the same with the televisions that people change it every six months, another thing is that it’s possible that you are one of the few people that use the same television or cell phone and you try to have them for a long time as possible in order not to waste something that still working but it doesn’t matter if you  try to take care of them because now a days this devices are made for getting damaged maximum two years later after you  had bought it in order to the companies to make you buy them another product of them. But there is one thing that people are not taking into account that is the future of their child because if we consume a lot in the future there will not be the enough resources to satisfy the needs or even more there will not be clean air for them to live so here are some ways to start practicing the environmental sustainability: reduce the use of energy for example when you are not using an electronic device like the computer turn it off and disconnect it or to reduce the use of water by recycling it for example recollecting the water of the washer before it throw it and use it for the plants or to recollect the cold water from the shower mean while it is warming or other way to help is to share your car with people the you know that work near you or in the same place and also you can recycle the plastic bottles by making plants base, pencil base, etc… In this way you will help the planet and take care of the future of your child and future generations that will live after you because “You don’t inherit the earth to your child, your child borrows you the earth” This was one of the phrases that Luis said and the end of the speech.
